Not really. I just know how to code.
I speak the language of computers.
Computers and I share tendency to be weird and enigmatic to
most human beings. As for why I don’t use
my skill to make money? Fuck that. I hate big tech, it’s why I
dropped out of computer science school.
Gladly. So, what do I use?
React? Angular? Vue?
Nah, this website is just pure, honest, home brewed HTML and
CSS. That isn’t to say I didn’t employ a little help in
putting this together.
I use jekyll, a static site generator. I
don’t need much more than that. That includes a bit of Sass CSS
preprocessing. Since SCSS is much more manageable to my
neurodivergent mind than regular CSS.
To be honest I got tired of the usual setup of PHP content managment systems integrating with MySQL databases and that sort of thing. This, it’s simple. It’s nice.
I don’t think I’ve ever coded in a way that’s normal. My computer science teachers and professors have always found my style to be funny. Not really in the way that I code, just that I find an atypical way of solving problems. Also I love leaving jokes in the comments.
But honestly, coding in a way that set me apart is what actually ended up saving me from fitting in. Because I know that if I did fit in to others, I’d never fit back in my skin.
This is why so many trans women know how to code by the way.
(no it’s not)
